First first decide if this will be a big or small party.  Figure out how many people you want to invite. Start with a list, and then decide if each person might be able to bring a guest. Do this at least 1 or 2 months ahead of the party date.  Be as clear as possible with directions to your party.

If the party is taking place at a dance hall or other rental location be sure everyone knows the guidelines for using the facility and abides by the rules. After invites are sent, be sure to get a clear confirmation if whether or not your friends will bring a guest with them.
  • Don't leave decorating to the last minute. Give yourself time to re-arrange and add things to your displays and you will also have time to prepare games, and other activities.
  • Allow 4 to 5 weeks notice of the party, to make sure you get all your friends first! You need to know how many people to feed, and if you will have enough room for everyone if you are hosting the party at your house.
  • Make sure all your friends and their guests have a ride home.
  • Set out snacks and beverages as people start to arrive, so everything is fresh and ready to eat.
  • Have activities at the start of the party so guests can get settled and in the mood. This is also good if people are late, this way they won't miss out on games.
  • If the party is not very close to Halloween, will people be dressing up? Be sure to include if costumes are mandatory.
  • Discuss food allergies/concerns with the people before the party.
  • Never leave a pumpkin close to material that can catch fire.
  • If you don't know what your guests like to eat, ask them to bring something with them.
  • Do not leave guests for long periods at a time, your the host and should be around with your friends.
  • Have an agenda planned from start to finish. You could also include this in the invitations.
  • Be respectful and make sure your music does not disturb your neighbours.

*Important*

-If this is an adult party and you serve alcoholic beverages, please drink responsibly.

  • Arrange taxi rides when the party is over.
  • Be prepared for overnight quests.
